1st
Day
Arrival in Abruzzo late in the morning and pick up at the
Pescara
Airport
by Gran Turismo Coach. You will reach your 3-star hotel on the Coast
accommodation in the reserved rooms. Lunch in hotel.
Early in the afternoon you will leave towards the Abruzzo’s
hinterland where you will find interesting historic villages,
amazing Romanesque churches and olive groves.
Arrival in Loreto Aprutino, an important medieval hamlet, that
lies on a hill where the sight runs from the
Gran
Sasso
Mountain
to the
Adriatic sea
. In the rural area around it you will visit the 13th
century church Santa Maria in Piano. Inside there is a
special 14th century painting, featuring The Last
Judgement. This is the rare witness of ancient beliefs that
represent the difference between the Catholic religion and some
other eastern ones. You
will see the wonderful pottery collection of the Baron Acerbo
and you will be explained by the inhabitants the strange tale of the
patron Saint and his weird celebration.
Then, you will reach Moscufo to see the 12th century
Romanesque church of Santa Maria of the Lake. It is situated
in a place considered sacred since the Pagan age and then linked to
the Knights Templar. They have left strange witnesses and particular
tales still told by the inhabitants of that area actually. Inside
the church you may admire a well-conserved polychrome pulpit of the
1159 a.D., the most beautiful medieval masterpiece of our Region.
You will visit an oil press where growers use only olives of the
environs, and you will have a guided sample of their Aprutino
– Pescarese DOP fine oil-Protected Denomination Origin. In
the evening coming back in hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
2nd Day
Breakfast in hotel and leaving by Gran Turismo Coach. In the morning you
will have a short visit to the great Romanesque Abbey of San
Clemente a Casauria. It is among the greatest artistic monuments
of the region, with the stone manufacturing as the expression of the
Abruzzo’s Romanesque art. Then you will pass through to the Santo
Spirito Valley. This rocky valley is crossed by a river that runs
deep in a wood and leads to the highest Maiella’s peaks. There you
will discover the San Bartolomeo Hermitage, where Pietro from
Morrone lived before he became Pope Celestino V. You will reach the
hermitage with a two hours walking round trip. Then you will have
lunch in a typical restaurant in Roccamorice.
During the afternoon you will have sample and
a guided visit to one of the most popular Wine Cellars over Abruzzo
where the best Abruzzo’s D.O.C. fine wine is made. Late in
the afternoon coming back in hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
3rd
Day
Breakfast in hotel and leaving by Gran Turismo coach towards the Gran
Sasso National Park. The road will lead you to Campo
Imperatore, a huge plateau 26km long and 10 km wide at 1600
metres over the sea level. This place was considered magic by
Emperor Federico II who gave it the name. It became popular also
because Sergio Leone shot there his Western movies.
Follows the visit to Santo Stefano di Sessanio, one of
the best preserved villages of the inner Abruzzo. It still has all
the aspects of the fortified medieval hamlet. You will have lunch in
a typical restaurant near L’Aquila. During the afternoon you will
visit
L’Aquila
, that has been for a while
Abruzzi
’s capital and has been the theatre for many important historical
facts. You
will see Santa Maria di Collemaggio Basilica, San
Bernardino da Siena Abbey and the 99 Sinks Fountain.
Late in the afternoon coming back to the hotel, dinner and overnight
stay.
4th Day
Breakfast in hotel and leaving by Gran Turismo coach towards Termoli.
A ferry boat will take you on the Tremiti
Islands. It is the only Archipelago on the Italian
side of the Adriatic Sea. The islands have Mediterranean colours and
aspects. You will have guided visit to the fortified monastery of Santa
Maria from the Sea on San Nicola island. Follows an
exciting trip by boat around San Domino island, with its grottos,
its natural beauties and its giant stones. Free lunch.
Early in the afternoon you will have free time to spend in the island’s
woods or on the beach. Ferry Boat back to Termoli late in the
afternoon. In the evening coming back in hotel, dinner and overnight
stay.
5th Day
Breakfast in hotel and leaving from by Gran Turismo coach. You will
arrive in Sulmona, important
place for the production of the “Confetti”. After visiting the
historical establishment where the Confetti are produced, you will
walk in the town centre. After passing through the Gole del
Sagittario, you will reach Anversa degli
Abruzzi
for a pic-nic in a typical farm holidays. In the afternoon you will
reach Scanno, well-known
holidays place that lies on the shore of a lake surrounded by
mountains. You will have a break on the shores of the lake and a
walk in the characteristic town centre. In the afternoon coming back
in hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
6th Day
