4 days to spend like a
king in a fascinating atmosphere of an old medieval castle (dating
back to the 8th century), recently restored and turned
into a charming 4 star hotel.
1st
Day:
Arrival in Abruzzo late in the morning. Leaving from
Pescara
Airport
by Gran Turismo Coach for Loreto Aprutino, where lies the
Castle and accommodation in the reserved rooms. Lunch in a
typical restaurant in Loreto. Early in
the afternoon sightseeing of the historical centre of
Loreto, which rises on a hill between Gran Sasso and the
Adriatico sea. You will visit Santa Maria in Piano church and
the beautiful pottery collection belonging to baron Acerbo.
Dinner in the castle and overnight stay.
2nd
Day:
Breakfast in the hotel and leaving for Atri, one of the most
important Renaissance towns of
Abruzzi
. Rich in works of art, such as Cattedrale dell’Assunta,
Palazzo Acquaviva, Chiesa degli Agostiniani and the wonderful
belvedere from which you may admire Gran Sasso as long as the
Adriatico. Following for Campli, delicious historical centre
among the hills of Teramo, where you will visit the splendid Santa
Maria in Platea church, the Holy Stairs, the
ex-monastery, which has been changed into the
Archeological
Museum
, which collect important pre-romanic reports, and some famous
buildings of 16th century, such as the Chemist’s house, the
Doctor’s house, and Palazzo Farnese. Lunch in a
typical restaurant in Campli.
In the afternoon, sightseeing of Civitella del Tronto, which is
dominated by one of the biggest fortresses in
Europe
, settled in a wonderful panoramic position. This fortress,
committed by King Charles 2nd, is built on a pre-existent
structure and has been the last bulwark of the Bourbon resistance against the Savoy. The
town stretches on a hill lying at the foot of the fortress and has
maintained its old town-planning establishment. Dinner in the castle
and overnight stay.
3rd
Day:
Breakfast in the hotel. Departure to Sulmona, wonderful town full
of art, where the poet Ovidio was born and where the “confetti”
were created. You will visit the SS. Annunziata Complex,
San Panfilo Catthedral, the Medieval aqueduct, Palazzo
Tabassi and Santa Maria della Tomba.
Lunch in a restaurant near Sulmona. In the afternoon sightseeing of Pescara,
the modern commercial heart of Abruzzo, the biggest city in the
region sited between the hills and the sea. You will visit the older
side of the city, with the majestic Cathedral of Saint Cetteo and
the old fisherman quarter, where there are the natives houses of the
famous poets Gabriele D’Annunzio and Ennio Flaiano, until the new
centre of the city, where sea-front is situated The Ship, a famous
sculpture by Pietro Cascella. Late in the afternoon coming back to
the castle, dinner and overnight stay.
4th Day:
Breakfast in the hotel. Leaving to Chieti, town of very ancient
origins situated in a panoramic position and which stretches its
surface until reaching the Pescara river Valley. Its treasures are
collected in the National Archaeological Museum, such as the
impressive statue of the Capestrano Warrior, an ancient
funerary stele devoted to a proud Italic warrior, which has became a
symbol of the Abruzzo region. Later you will take a walke in the
historical centre: the elegant “Corso Marrucino”(main street),
heart of the town, the Marrucino Theatre and the wonderful St.
Giustino cathedral. Free
lunch and leaving to come back.
