Abruzzo or Abruzzi? Actually this latter was the
previous name given to this wonderful Region for centuries,
because of the variety and richness of its land. It’s like
Mother Nature has mixed up all the best ingredients to create this
colourful corner of the Earth: high and imposing mountains,
stretching along several chains,
scented and colourful hills in a open wide countryside and
crystal waters of the Adriatic Sea, kissing golden sandy beaches. Abruzzo offers everything you were
longing for: you can climb up to the Gran Sasso peaks in the
morning, having lunch in a typical restaurant of the countryside
or a pick nick enjoying wonderful landscapes; then in the
afternoon there is still time to go the beach or swim. Moreover,
many are the sport facilities, as well as interesting works of art
for those keen on culture and history. This tour aims at giving
you a taste of all the flavours of Abruzzo, in every
sense!
1st Day:
Arrival
in Abruzzo and peak up at the Airport, where you will meet your
Tour-guide. Transfer by Gran Turismo coach to the hotel, situated on
the Adriatic coast. Accommodation in the reserved rooms. Dinner and
overnight stay.
2nd Day: Campo Imperatore – S. Stefano di Sessanio
Breakfast
in the hotel. Departure by Gran Turismo coach for the first exiting
excursion in Abruzzo: driving through wonderful panoramic roads you
will reach the enchanting uplands of Campo Imperatore, an
upland 26 mt. long, lying at an altitude of about 1600 mt above sea
level. It was Emperor Friedrick II of Hohenstaufen who gave it the
name: as a matter of fact he came often on these pastures for its
alchemic and magical experiments. Moreover this unique landscape due
its fame to the movie director Sergio Leone, since many scenes of
his Western films were shot here. After a panoramic ride plunged in
an unreal landscape, you will stop for lunch in Fonte Vetica, where
you can buy some typical products or even some fresh meat and
directly barbecue en pleine air. The tour will continue towards the
medieval village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio,
characterized by a round watch-tower which stands out with its
austere shape. In the past it was an important centre for Abruzzese
wool trade, one of the most important and profitable activity of the
time. You will step into the past discovering the story of this
timeless hamlet. Late in the afternoon, coming back to the hotel,
dinner and overnight stay.

Trabocchi and S. Giovanni in Venere
Breakfast in hotel. Free time in the morning for individual activities. Lunch in the hotel.
Departure by Gran Turismo coach towards the southern Abruzzo cost, the so-called Costa dei

were used for fishing. Many of them are scattered along the
coastline, anchored to the rocks as guards on lookout.
Then you will move to the countryside to visit one of the most striking
panoramic point of the Region: the complex of the Abbey of San
Giovanni in Venere. The church devoted to San Giovanni was built
on the ruins of an ancient Venus’ pagan temple. The Romanesque
style of the architecture is enriched by decorative elements of the
Byzantine tradition. Late in the afternoon coming back to the hotel,
dinner and overnight stay.

you will reach the small town of Civitella del Tronto.
Nestled on a travertine hill, its origins dates back to the Early
Middle ages and still preserves the typical layout of a medieval
hamlet. Civitella is famous above all for its imposing Fortess:
stretching for more than 250 mt, you will discover each corner of
this fort, one of the most powerful in Southern Italy. Its fame grew
particularly in the second half of the 19th century, the
period of the reunification of the Kingdom of Italy: Southern Italy
belonged to the Bourbon Dynasty. They fought against the Savoy of
Northern Italy, who were trying to reunify the whole peninsula.
Lunch in a typical restaurant. In the afternoon coming back to the
hotel and free time at disposal. In the evening dinner and overnight

the Romanesque Church of Santa Maria in Piano, built
in the 13th century. A valuable, hidden art treasure is painted on
the interior side of its façade: the Particular Judgement of Souls,
an encaustic painting depicting the Doomsday according to several
visionary tales and creeds of the Middle Ages, which mingle with
ancient Oriental beliefs. Once reached the historical centre of
Loreto, you will have lunch in a typical restaurant. In the
