Seven
days in Abruzzo, three of them to spend in wonderful hiking upon
Gran Sasso’s and Maiella’s highest peaks (Appennini’s highest
chains). You will discover a region made of harmonious contrasts:
between the mountains and the sea, the green Adriatic Sea and the
deep blue sky, our coast
cooking tastes and the inner Abruzzo’s typical gastronomy. Your
hiking will be enriched by cultural and tourist visits that will
allow you to discover the most interesting aspects of our land.

Early in the afternoon You will visit
L’Aquila
, that was for a certain period Abruzzo’s chief-town and
became also the theatre for many important historical events. It was
founded by Emperor Frederick II of Svevia. You will see Santa
Maria di Collemaggio Basilica, built by Pietro from Morrone who
became Pope Celestino V during summer of 1294, San Bernardino
from Siena Abbey, the 99 Sinks Fountain, the XVI
century Spanish Castle and the Duomo Square. Dinner in

level. This place was considered magic by Emperor Frederick II, who
gave it the name. It became popular also because Sergio Leone
produced there his Western movies. Then you will get up to the Monte
Camicia’s peak (m 2.564) walking. The trip lasts about 7 hours

best preserved villages of the inner Abruzzo. It still has all the
aspects of a fortified medieval hamlet. It has been owned by the
Tuscany’s Aristocracy which owned the village from the 16th

Adriatic Sea
. Leaving towards the Blockhaus peak (m.2.142). There the Savoia

Giovanni in Venere abbey. It was built on the basis of an old
pagan temple that had been dedicated to the goddess of love and it
is situated just on a beach that the Romans used to call the
“Venus’ Gulf”. The Romanesque style of its architecture is
enriched by decorative elements of the Byzantine tradition. It is
also enriched by the use of some Roman building materials. Later you
will move southwards along the coastline to admire that part of
Abruzzo’s coast called the Trabocchi’s coast. The
Trabocchi are special wooden fishing machines that were used until
the beginning of the 20th century. You will have seafood lunch
in restaurant in San Vito Chietino.
In the afternoon follows the visit Chieti, town of very ancient
origins situated in a panoramic position and which stretches its
surface until reaching the Pescara river Valley. Its treasures are
collected in the National Archaeological Museum, such as the
impressive statue of the Capestrano Warrior, an ancient
funerary stele devoted to a proud Italic warrior, which has became a
symbol of the Abruzzo region. Later you will take a walk in the
